More Options for the Settings page Empty More Options for the Settings page

Post by Calib Sun Aug 14, 2011 4:55 am

Here are a few things that I think would be nice to have under the Settings page. I know the features are still being worked on, so please pardon if some of the options have already been planned.

If you can think of other things to go under settings, feel free to suggest them here!

Confirmation Boxes: On/Off
Those "You are leveling this ____" confirmation boxes can be annoying, especially if they tend to cover up the creatures you wanted to click next! It would be nice to be able to turn these boxes off. The creatures you click will still get points towards growth and you still get your platinum for clicking, but there will be no confirmation pop-up.

Hide Adult Creatures: Yes/No
This simply hides your adults. This can be useful if you have a lot of creatures that have not grown up yet or just don't feel like showing off your fully grown collection.

Sort Creatures by Species & Growth Stage (Alpha to Omega)
Lists creatures by species, but Alphas are up front, then Betas, and so on. For example, if these smilies were creatures it would go something like this....
|ALPHA| cat clown pig rabbit |Delta| catcat pig |Omega| clown clown pig rabbitrabbit

Navbar Location: Top/Bottom
Firefox's latest update basically removes the bottom bar. Now a pop-up box comes up whenever a page is loading instead of having a static bar at the bottom of the screen even when things are loaded. The problem is that this box covers up the nav bar whenever the page is still loading! This option would move the navbar to the top of the screen instead of the bottom so the loading bar on Firefox doesn't cover it up.

Home Station: (dropdown)
Once we can access multiple planets, it would be nice if we could select a "default" planet to start on so we don't have to load up the map and move there every time. It would be extra cool if we could select "Home Stations" in different parts of different planets we could warp to so you could always start in a specific jungle on a specific world if you want! These would be set via a button on the "egg hunting" screen.

Get Multiple Codes
This will allow you to get the codes for more than one creature at a time.
When you go to this page it has two lists of checkboxes. Check one of each to narrow your search or check "all" to see them all.

List 1: Alpha, Beta, Delta, Omega, ALL
List 2: Species, Time Obtained, Name, ALL

Species will not load anything at first but a dropdown of species you own. Select the species from the dropdown to see the creatures in a box beside the dropdown.

---------------------------
What do you think, guys? Feel free to add to or make your own suggestions.

These answer in the correct order of the suggestions.

For the Confirmation Boxes, I'm already making 2 more ways of viewing creatures that will be more convenient than the box. You will be able to switch between the three.

I like that idea. I'll add it when I revamp the Sort Your Menagerie setting.

This has already been implemented. It's very weak and usually doesn't work properly, though. I'm going to be fixing it and adding more sort options.

I am using Firefox and it works just fine. Can you supply a screenshot?

We already have plans for this, but not for a home station. I do not like the Home Station Default idea because you would have to go to your Station and go back to the map to go somewhere else.

We already have this on-site. Just not as vivid or complex as you described.

I'm glad a few of my ideas are either useful or already planned. Smile I went ahead and broke down your posts for easier replies.

I don't mind clicking on the boxes on the menageries and scrolling over. I find this is refreshing and much easier than the "view many pages" style that most sites use. I just find the pop-up confirmations annoying, that's all. Smile

Here is a screenshot. I am using Firefox 5.0.1 with BlackFox as my theme.
This happens every time a page loads.

If I'm clicking creatures, I have the same problem while waiting for the pop-up "You are leveling ___" confirmation box to load. The only difference is it appears on the other side of the toolbar, blocking the "Users online" link. This is annoying because I like clicking the online users and visiting their creatures. I also have slow internet so the confirmation boxes take between 3 and 7 seconds each to load. You can see the confirmation box I was talking about being able to turn off loading in this screenshot, too.

Ahh. Where do you go to see it? Smile

I was suggesting a fancier sorting method for the "get multiple codes" feature as it makes it much easier to find what you are looking for, especially if you have many creatures. Other sites that load every thumbnail or otherwise do not allow you to sort by at least species and level you are stuck wading through hundreds of creatures to find just one. It can be very frustrating.

It's good to know there's a basic "get multiple codes" feature, though!

That happens in Google Chrome also. In my version of firefox, the same thing happens. If you hover over that, it just moves to the other side. No big deal.

Also, you can find the embed option on your user page where it also gives you the minified link to your menagerie.

Ahh, I didn't notice the hover thing. I also found the embed link. I thought "Use this to help your creatures grow!" was referring to the short link to my menagerie right above it. Razz I feel silly now.

Thanks again. Smile

By the way, one other minor forum suggestion popped into my head: it would be really neat if your "Project N username" on the forums was a link to your menagerie. Smile

Hold on. I think it might be possible...give me a second to try something...

Nope, my idea didn't work. But I know some forums have this capability, so in theory it's possible. Certainly something to look into.

If you change the PN Username field type to a text area, you can use BBCode in it and link to your menagerie.

It IS a text field already.

I even extended it to 500 characters and it still doesn't work.

No, not a text field. A text area/zone.

Text field is a one-row.
Text area is more than a row.

I'll have to remove it and re-add it to do that.

Hey, it works!

Oh.

But if the community do want it, they can vote on a poll if they would prefer it as it is, or have it redone (it only takes a few seconds to fill in that text box).

That's what I was thinking, too. What they probably have is a space where you put your username and it puts it at the end of a set URL and uses your name as the link text.

I'm not the strongest coder, but this should be done through variables. Something along the lines of...

on submit set variable name to contents of namebox
in space Nprofile print '[url="http://nyoka.us/u/ + name "] name[/url]'

namebox = the area on your profile page where you put in your project N username
name = the variable the coding uses to remember what your name is
Nprofile = the spot that shows up next to your name with your projectN link

You'll have to change my foo-code into actual code, but I hope this gets the idea across.

For now, I went ahead and used the BBcode. Smile Yep, it works! Yay!
